Call for Papers. VAD 11. The archives

    CFP VAD11 Los archivos

The original sense of the archive lies in the Greek term 'arkheîon', a word that referred to the residence of the archons who had the right to interpret the documents entrusted to their care from their position of authority. However, Foucault's archaeological exploration of knowledge in the early days of postmodernity pointed out that archives ceased to be confined to a physical space and assumed an abstract condition as a transformative device for statements and discourses. Moreover, the changes in the order and dynamics of the archive have been accentuated by new digital technologies, as noted by Wolfgang Ernst, impacting how knowledge is produced and consumed and consequently reshaping power structures.

So, what should we preserve if we assimilate the archive as a 'repository of meanings,' as Eric Ketelaar puts it?

Call for Papers. VAD 10. The matter

    The material paradigm

Idealism and materialism, these two antagonistic visions of philosophy, are constantly present in architecture. Juan Gris said that a nail was made with the idea of a nail, while Braque thought that a nail was made with iron.

For us, thought and design action have been the same thing, the matter of the projects. We agree with the classical idea that poetics is

"what is made that makes, what is constructed that builds".

VAD 09. Call for Papers. Las incógnitas

Under the motto "Unknown Unknowns. An introduction to mysteries", the curator of the recent 23rd Milan Triennale 2022, the astrophysicist and director of the Diversity Office at the European Space Agency (ESA), Ersilia Vaudo asked artists, architects and scientists to propose projects that address "what we didn't know that we didn't know". A call with which she invited them to establish collective and interdisciplinary reflections on the immensity of knowledge yet to be discovered.
