Colonizing the urban space | Íñigo García Odiaga

From the point of view of the architecture and the urbanism, the encamped ones of the movement 15M have returned to put of current importance different occupations of the urban space, realized from social protests. The capture of the common space on the part of the citizens has one of his first modals in the occupation of the public parks of the German cities after the Second World war. With the cities devastated by the bombardments of the war and the unoperative networks of the logistics of the food, the inhabitants of the cities faced the absence of food and housing occupying the green spaces. He took advantage of the whole available area, from particular gardens, sports fields and parks up to any suitable space for the culture, to place a small big hut constructed with rubbles of the war and car to be supplied from small gardens. A good verification of these moments they are the photographies of a Reichstag in ruins which front esplanade has been colonized by hundreds of small gardens. The reconstruction of the cities erased completely these practices and the recovery of the urban life was carried out by strong evictions and protests in some cases.
