Abstract

This paper researches about the use that Jorn Utzon makes about the interstitial spaces in Can Lis and how, by using them, he allows the dwelling a stronger connection not only with the horizon of the sea, but also with the earth, the trees and the wind creating a domestic ara. These intermediate spaces intensify the observation given by the senses in the human being and also in his comprehension of the house by making all the senses involved in the architectural experience. In addition to this, the paper also analyzes the use that the danish master makes of `the additive architecture ´and how he uses it in a brilliant way creating spaces that never show the sea in a simple way. This tool proposes different filters that provide the inhabitant of the house different thresholds that prepare him to watch the line of the sea. Moreover, these intermediate spaces link the human being with the Nature, building a complex itinerary trough voids, courtyards and narrow corridors.
