The Institut Ramon Llull presents the Catalan sample inside the Eventi Collaterali GRAFTING ARCHITECTURE. CATALONIA AT VENICE REPRESENTS TO CATALONIA IN 14 ª BIENNIAL SHOW OF ARCHITECTURE OF VENICE.
Catalonia will be present for the second time in the Biennial show of Architecture of Venice, inside the Eventi Collaterali, with a project comisariado for Josep Torrents i Alegre: Grafting Architecture. Catalonia at Venice. This offer chosen by a juror across a public contest summoned by the Institut Ramon Llull, wants to show the change of paradigm that is taking place in the contemporary Catalan architecture, showing examples of a way of doing that it can update an alive tradition, projecting it towards the future. Grafting Architecture. Catalonia at Venice will inaugurate on June 5 in the Cantieri Navali, Street Quintavalle, Castello, 40.
This offer that Catalonia presents in Venice has the firm intention of recognizing, of valuing and re-formulating the specificity of the local architectures in contrast with the architecture global and franchisee that has reigned in the last years. The point of item is the house Bofarull (1913-1933), one of Josep Maria’s principal works Jujol (1879-1949). In the way of working of the of Tarragona architect we can identify an attitude that can follow in many projects constructed in the last century, and that is based on an intense dialog by the preexistences (physical and not), that allow to develop a project that includes and mixes the new elements and the existing ones, as the cutting grafts of the tree.
The house Bofarull allows us to cross an architectural attitude atemporal. They her accompany the IES The Llauna de Badalona (1984-86, Carme Pinós and Enric Miralles), the space The Lira de Ripoll (2004-2011, RCR Arquitectes and Joan Puigcorbé), and the space transmitter of Seró’s tomb / dolmen (2007-2013, Toni Gironès), projects removed temporarily, but nearby in many aspects. They all work with preexistences and are a fruit of the stratification of concepts, in which the traditional materials are reinterpreted and are inserted in a territory, talking with them. They are complex and wealth-producing projects, which add a temporary milestone in the place where they are constructed, and do not understand each other without the environment, for what it is impossible to distinguish the parts completely. A rich local – universal synthesis dresses as engine of the project, where the interpretation of the world takes place from one of his corners. Projects of slow boiling and reflection, continuers of an architectural alive tradition and of crossed length.

The comisariado of the exhibition, Josep Torrents i Happy is accompanied by two attached commissioners: Guillem Carabí, architect and person in charge of the paragraph dedicated to Jujol, and Jordi Ribas, cultural manager at the expense of the Actions.
According to Torrents i Alegre,
“the offer is not a debate on projects taxidérmicos and conservative, but it tries to penetrate into an architectural attitude that generates new strata and establishes new relations there where it intervenes. Grafting is a concept that transmits the idea of the most vigorous new organism, fruit of two organisms that combine his original components, and the architectures that they present are the result of these vigorous combinations”.
The conductive thread of the offer is the description of the diverse projects across the architectural process and the later perception of the resultant building. These projects are understood from yes same, of his singularity, and not as architectures that form a part of a movement.
In the first phase the process is described used to plan and to construct the building by means of photographies, sketches, drawings, models … but in no case documents of the finished buildings. This phase allows to understand and to discover the diverse ways of coming closer this attitude, listening to the voice of the architects.
In the second phase it puts on emphasis in the perception of these architectures across three different looks. The passage of time and the commonness will be caught by photographic images and of video. In this phase the Actions will be realized for those that there have selected four different artists who will reinterpret every building from an artistic action thought specifically for the space where they will develop.
The exhibition will complement itself with a catalogue and a web: + info
