Las primeras Jornadas de Urbanismo y Género: Ciudad en Construcción, que organiza el Ayuntamiento de Málaga, tienen como objetivo mostrar que la Igualdad de Género es una cuestión que también afecta a la estructura de la ciudad. La utilización que hombres y mujeres hacen de la ciudad, los espacios, zonas verdes, transportes públicos y las propias viviendas, es diferente debido a que las vidas y los roles que desempeñan en ellas también lo son. Por otra parte, el acceso y el control de hombres y mujeres a estos bienes y recursos también es distinto. Hasta el momento el diseño de las ciudades no ha tenido en cuenta dichas diferencias, es por eso que las ciudades (igual que casi todas las manifestaciones de la cultura androcéntrica) tienen una impronta masculina ya que se han formado tomando como referente preferencial las necesidades de los varones.
Una sociedad y una cultura democráticas deben articularse en un espacio igualitario y común: la ciudad. Esta, a su vez, debe ser reflejo de un orden social igualitario en la que las diferentes necesidades e intereses de mujeres y hombres se vean satisfechos. Durante 2 días se impartirán conferencias, se establecerán mesas de debate y se realizarán rutas con perspectiva de género por la ciudad para detectar y demostrar que la cuestión de género es un aspecto fundamental que debe tenerse en cuenta en la estructura de una ciudad.
