This project was constructed as annexe to the building of Roupar’s La Havana School that, at present, is used as sociocultural place of the residents association.
The building possesses a strong patrimonial protection and the new action seeks not to compete with his presence rejecting the mímesis as criterion of intervention.
The process of autoconstruction turned the execution into the determinant part of the project, implying his users from the initial moment.
The building develops as a changeable element from the beginning. Having finished the architectural base is the use what transforms it completely whenever it is opened.
This project was constructed as annexe to the building of Roupar’s Of Havana School that, at present, is used as sociocultural place of the residents association. To intervene on a building of great patrimonial value, since it is this case, forces to a previous reflection on the need of the action.
Roupar is a rural core that forms a part of more than thirty thousand units of this type that structure the Galician territory. At present, the rural one is immersed in a process of crisis provoked fundamentally by the difficulties that crosses the productive agrarian and cattle sector, depending on which it has been structured traditionally.
In this respect, the changes of use of the territory carry the appearance of new needs, more own of the urban thing, as the endowment of equipments, not only educational and welfare, and the creation of public spaces.
The building of the School is used as sociocultural equipment by the residents association. His activities were needing new spaces for storage and a zone to cook, determined dimensionalmente to use containers of great size and for the placement of a lareira. In the existing building, these activities were turning out to be incompatible with the patrimonial value of the construction, for what one proposes an attached building in the later part.
The exposition departs from the idea of lightening the presence of the new construction in relation to the forcefulness of the existing building. There are constructed two vertical elements, a chimney and a wall of support on a crossbeam of concrete, as the only permanent pieces, almost as elements of furniture. In contrast, a light skin on structure of galvanized steel and sheet of aluminium prelacado, they formalize the interior space.
Volumetrically two displaced prisms appear, so that the testeros allow to be opened completely, extending the occupation of the space to the totality of the plot when it is in functioning and monopolies being folded as containers when it is closed.
There might be thought that it is a question of an element foreign to the traditional construction, but the presence of annexes to the principal building, generally also separated physically from this one, they are habitual in our territory. According to the zone, they receive a name: alboio, shed, pendello, … in that there are realized activities of storage or functions that do not have content in the principal housing. At present, there is constructed by light materials of low cost, as sheets of steel, plates of fibrocemento, etc, in a process of autoconstruction not controlled that has provoked the habitual critique in the press on this type of actions, especially from an aesthetic point of view.
In this case, the process of construction was carried out without specialized companies, executing the work the members of the Association. The metallic materials were cut, turned and welded in workshop, so that the putting in work was realized by means of a procedure of dry meeting.
The process of autoconstruction turned the execution into the determinant part of the project, implying his users from the initial moment. The building develops as a changeable element from the beginning. Having finished the architectural base is the use what transforms it completely whenever it is opened.
