Data and software

Research data

VAD encourages authors to deposit the data underlying their research in open repositories with persistent identifiers and to cite them in the article. On submission, authors shall include a data availability statement indicating where the data can be accessed or why they cannot be shared (for example, third-party rights over drawings or photographs, or the protection of personal data). If not applicable, state “Not applicable”.

Software and code

VAD encourages authors to use free and open-source software in their research wherever possible. It also encourages them to share any code, scripts or tools they have developed in open repositories with persistent identifiers (e.g. Zenodo) and under free licences. On submission, authors shall include a software availability statement. The statement shall indicate which software or code was used or developed, with its version and licence, and where it can be accessed or, if it cannot be shared, why not. If not applicable, state “Not applicable”.
