El sue\u00f1o de la \u00abtorre de cristal \u00ab, cuyo origen se encuentra vinculado a la figura y obra de Mies Van der Rohe desde que en 1919 dibujara el visionario rascacielos de la Friedrichstrasse, iba a tener en su resoluci\u00f3n un inconveniente tan prosaico como inesperado.<\/p>\n

En 1950, cuando Gordon Bunshaft (SOM) y la Lever House de Charles Luckman se ergu\u00edan en la Park Avenue de Nueva York, y su nunca antes vista fachada acristalada demandaba una estanqueidad no resuelta hasta entonces, surgi\u00f3 la ineludible necesidad de idear un modo de posibilitar la limpieza exterior.<\/p>\n

La eficiente oficina de los SOM dedic\u00f3 seis meses de esfuerzo continuado para encontrar el modo de resolver el problema en semejante escala. Fue en vano. Tuvieron que recurrir finalmente a los ingenieros de Jaros, Baum & Bolles, encargados de las instalaciones del edificio, en colaboraci\u00f3n con la Otis Elevator Company para inventar la soluci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Un ingenioso aparato m\u00f3vil sobre ra\u00edles consigui\u00f3 suspender en el per\u00edmetro exterior una plataforma de limpieza con los operarios dentro.<\/p>\n

Es probable que se acertara a bautizarla \u00abg\u00f3ndola\u00bb tiempo despu\u00e9s por sus esbeltas proporciones y sus suaves movimientos oscilantes.<\/p>\n

La prensa y los curiosos transe\u00fantes de la ciudad de aquellos a\u00f1os no dejaron de hacerse eco de semejante espect\u00e1culo. Tan sorprendente como \u00fanico.<\/p>\n

Se iniciaba entonces la arquitectura denominada de \u00abskin and bones\u00bb, un lenguaje de matices y fina dial\u00e9ctica entre et\u00e9reos cerramientos y nuevas soluciones volum\u00e9tricas y estructurales. Las grandes superficies de vidrio iban a imponerse en todo el mundo occidental como referente cultural y econ\u00f3mico.<\/p>\n

La soluci\u00f3n en aquel tiempo ideada, por sencilla y eficaz, hoy pasa desapercibida. Pero no ha podido ser mejorada.<\/p>\n

O so\u00f1o da \u00abtorre de cristal\u00bb, cuxo orixe se atopa vinculado \u00e1 figura e obra de Mies Van der Rohe desde que en 1919 debuxase o visionario ra\u00f1aceos da Friedrichstrasse, \u00eda ter na s\u00faa resoluci\u00f3n un inconveniente tan prosaico como inesperado.<\/p>\n

The dream of the \u00abtower of glass\u00bb, whose origin finds\u00a0 linked to the figure and Mies Van der Rohe\u00b4s work since in 1919 drew the visionario skyscraper of the Friedrichstrasse, went to have in his resolution a problem so prosaico like unexpected.<\/p>\n

It is probable that one was happening to baptize \u00abgondola\u00bb time later for his slender proportions and his soft oscillating movements.<\/p>\n

The press and the curious transients of the city of those years did not stop echoing similar spectacle. So surprising as only one.<\/p>\n

The architecture called was beginning then of \u00abskin and bones\u00bb, a language of shades and thin dialectics between ethereal closings and new volumetric and structural solutions. The big surfaces of glass were going to be imposed in the whole western world as cultural and economic modal.<\/p>\n
