Un tiempo de lento discurrir entre el rumor del agua.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El Canal de Castilla es el gran esfuerzo de la ingenier\u00eda hidr\u00e1ulica espa\u00f1ola de finales del XVIII. Hijo tard\u00edo de la ilustraci\u00f3n y v\u00edctima temprana de la revoluci\u00f3n industrial nace ya casi obsoleto y refleja bien el concepto de tiempo al que me quiero referir. El Canal une al hombre con su industria y a ambos con el territorio. Agua y tiempo hilvanan y ponen en evidencia las relaciones entre todos ellos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En el Canal se hace patente, tangible y visible, esa interdependencia que une tiempo y agua en un transcurrir constante. Un transcurrir <a href=\"https:\/\/veredes.es\/blog\/instrumentos-de-medida-del-tiempo-i-jorge-rodriguez\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lento<\/a> y atemporal como s\u00f3lo la uni\u00f3n de esta tierra sin horizonte y el discurrir del agua pueden hacer. La artificial geometr\u00eda de su trazado conduce al agua en un constante movimiento que contrasta con la aparente inmovilidad del campo por el que discurre. La meseta y los campos de cereal, los r\u00edos y el canal que los \u00e1rboles delimitan, el silencio y el horizonte, la luz y el murmullo del agua, todo nos habla del tiempo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alguien dijo una vez, parafraseando el titulo del libro de <a href=\"https:\/\/veredes.es\/blog\/tag\/sigfried-giedion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Giedion<\/a>, que<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cla arquitectura conlleva un gran espacio de tiempo\u201d,<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">y es verdad, una gran e irrefutable verdad. El tiempo condiciona a la arquitectura y acompa\u00f1a y conduce su percepci\u00f3n y disfrute. Pero la arquitectura tambi\u00e9n precisa de su tiempo para reflexi\u00f3n, para permitir el poso necesario para su decantaci\u00f3n y para el trabajo que conlleva su elaboraci\u00f3n. Todo es cuesti\u00f3n de tiempo y a cada cosa el suyo propio.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">No es mi intenci\u00f3n reclamar ahora para la arquitectura el exagerado tiempo geol\u00f3gico que lleva a la piedra a cristalizarse ni al cauce del r\u00edo a formarse, pero si el tiempo equivalente al que emplea un carpintero en trabajar la madera, a un cantero en dar forma a la piedra o a un herrero en forjar el metal. El tiempo del aprendizaje y el tiempo del trabajo. Tiempo necesario para pensar y hacer. Pero reclamar el tiempo de toda una vida y reclamar el tiempo de la artesan\u00eda que permite pensar y no el de la m\u00e1quina que nos lo evita es, hoy en d\u00eda una utop\u00eda obsoleta. El bueno de Bauman nos hablaba de los \u201ctiempos l\u00edquidos\u201d, pero mucho me temo que hemos cambiado de estado y de l\u00edquidos hemos pasado a \u201cgaseosos\u201d. Imparable proceso qu\u00edmico. Pero no me resigno.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hoy todo es veloz, la rapidez y la inmediatez son el lema. Pero no aquella velocidad futurista que <a href=\"https:\/\/veredes.es\/blog\/tag\/filippo-tommaso-marinetti\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marinetti<\/a>y compa\u00f1\u00eda expon\u00edan en su manifiesto, no, hablamos de la novedad por la novedad. Ser distinto y nuevo son ya valores en si mismos independientemente de su calidad. Los plazos se acortan y todo se sucede sin digesti\u00f3n ni poso. Todo es ef\u00edmero y pasajero en tiempo de r\u00e9cord ol\u00edmpico, lo dicho, \u201cgaseoso\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El tiempo que me interesa es el del agua, el tiempo que se mide por su transcurrir, ese que discurre r\u00e1pido o lento, ese que salta o se remansa, ese que se mueve, se arremolina o se estanca. El tiempo de la arquitectura que me gusta es como el tiempo que se mide por el discurrir del agua por el Canal de Castilla.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La dimensi\u00f3n temporal y el discurrir del agua establecen una perfecta interdependencia en un juego din\u00e1mico constante, cuyos efectos se hacen visibles por medio de su resonancia en el agua. La memoria del Canal, de su historia y de su arquitectura, es evocada continuamente en este juego de relaciones y el tiempo que el Canal evoca nos recuerda su valor, inmutable y cambiante a la vez.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Es el tiempo, junto con la gravedad y la luz, uno de esos valores inmutables que nos permiten el necesario anclaje en esta contemporaneidad de tiempos de obsolescencia programada y valores mercantilizados de inmediatez y reposici\u00f3n constante. O tempo da aprendizaxe e o tempo do traballo. Tempo necesario para pensar e facer. Pero reclamar o tempo dunha vida e reclamar o tempo da artesan\u00eda que permite pensar e non o da m\u00e1quina que nolo evita \u00e9, hoxe en d\u00eda unha utop\u00eda obsoleta. A time of slow discourse between the sound of water.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Canal de Castilla is the great effort of Spanish hydraulic engineering at the end of the 18th century. The late son of the Enlightenment and early victim of the industrial revolution is already almost obsolete and reflects well the concept of time that I want to refer to. The Canal unites man with his industry and both with the territory. Water and time baste and highlight the relationships between all of them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the Canal, that interdependence that unites time and water in a constant passage becomes patent, tangible and visible. A slow and timeless passage as only the union of this land without horizon and the flow of water can do. The artificial geometry of its layout leads to water in a constant movement that contrasts with the apparent immobility of the field through which it runs. The plateau and the cereal fields, the rivers and the channel that the trees delimit, the silence and the horizon, the light and the murmur of the water, all tell us about time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Someone once said, paraphrasing the title of <a href=\"https:\/\/veredes.es\/blog\/en\/tag\/sigfried-giedion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Giedion<\/a>&#8216;s book, that<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cArchitecture takes a long time\u201d,<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">and it is true, a great and irrefutable truth. Time conditions the architecture and accompanies and conducts its perception and enjoyment. But architecture also needs time for reflection, to allow the necessary sediment for its decantation and for the work that entails its elaboration. Everything is a matter of time and everything is your own.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is not my intention now to demand for architecture the exaggerated geological time that leads to the stone to crystallize or to the channel of the river to be formed, but if the time equivalent to that used by a carpenter to work the wood, to a stonemason to shape the stone or a blacksmith in forging the metal. The time of learning and the time of work. Time needed to think and do. But to reclaim the time of a life and to claim the time of craftsmanship that allows us to think and not that of the machine that avoids us is, nowadays, an obsolete utopia. The good guy from <a href=\"https:\/\/veredes.es\/blog\/en\/tag\/zygmunt-bauman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bauman<\/a> talked to us about \u201cliquid times\u201d, but I&#8217;m afraid that we have changed our state and liquids have become \u201cgaseous\u201d. Unstoppable chemical process. But I do not resign.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Today everything is fast, speed and immediacy are the motto. But not that futuristic speed that <a href=\"https:\/\/veredes.es\/blog\/en\/tag\/filippo-tommaso-marinetti\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marinetti<\/a> and company exhibited in their manifesto, no, we talk about novelty because of novelty. Being different and new are already values in themselves regardless of their quality. The terms are shortened and everything happens without digestion or sediment. Everything is ephemeral and passenger in Olympic record time, what is said \u201cgaseous\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The time that interests me is that of water, the time that is measured by its passing, the one that runs fast or slow, the one that jumps or rests, the one that moves or stagnates. The time of the architecture that I like is like the time that is measured by the flow of water through the Canal de Castilla.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The temporal dimension and the flow of water establish a perfect interdependence in a constant dynamic game, whose effects are made visible by means of their resonance in the water. The memory of the Canal, its history and its architecture, is continually evoked in this game of relationships and the time that the Canal evokes reminds us of its value, immutable and changing at the same time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Time, along with gravity and light, is one of those immutable values that allow us the necessary anchoring in this contemporaneity of programmed obsolescence and commodified values of immediacy and constant replenishment. The Canal evokes a necessary paused memory in front of the frenetic forgetfulness of constant novelty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The time of the architecture is the time of the water.<\/p>\n<p>Jorge Meijide . Desde 2014 trabaja en solitario colaborando con estudios y arquitectos amigos. Es profesor de proyectos arquitect\u00f3nicos en la Escuela T\u00e9cnica superior de Arquitectura de A Coru\u00f1a desde 1997; es tutor de proyecto fin de carrera y ha sido presidente del tribunal de PFC.
