Casto Fern\u00e1ndez-Shaw[:]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[:es]https:\/\/vimeo.com\/264403270<\/p>\n<p class=\"first\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Conferencia dedicada al arquitecto madrile\u00f1o <a href=\"https:\/\/veredes.es\/blog\/tag\/casto-fernandez-shaw-iturralde\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Casto Fern\u00e1ndez-Shaw Iturralde<\/strong><\/a> (1896-1978) como parte del ciclo <strong>Maestros Modernos<\/strong> de la <strong>Fundaci\u00f3n Arquitectura COAM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"first\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Con este ciclo se quiere poner de manifiesto la importancia que el patrimonio arquitect\u00f3nico contempor\u00e1neo tiene para la sociedad del siglo XXI, la necesidad de su reconocimiento social y de su mantenimiento y conservaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hijo del escritor\u00a0Carlos Fern\u00e1ndez Shaw,\u00a0que muri\u00f3 cuando Casto era un adolescente (1911), quedando a cargo de su t\u00edo materno, Daniel Iturralde. Ingres\u00f3 en la Escuela de Arquitectura en 1913, acabando la carrera con veintitr\u00e9s a\u00f1os, como miembro de una promoci\u00f3n integrada por diecisiete nuevos arquitectos. Entre su profesorado tuvo a\u00a0Ricardo Vel\u00e1zquez Bosco, director de la Escuela entre 1910-1918,\u00a0Modesto L\u00f3pez Otero\u00a0y\u00a0Antonio Palacios. En 1917 hab\u00eda entrado ya en el estudio de Antonio Palacios, para costearse sus \u00faltimos dos a\u00f1os de carrera. Con Palacios llegar\u00e1 luego a ser Jefe de delineaci\u00f3n del Concurso de 1919 para la sede del C\u00edrculo de Bellas Artes, que al quedar desierto, fue por fin encargado a Antonio Palacios. En este estudio coincidir\u00eda con\u00a0Pedro Muguruza, con el que realiz\u00f3 m\u00e1s tarde el proyecto del\u00a0Edificio Coliseum\u00a0en la Gran V\u00eda madrile\u00f1a, con un programa de teatro y viviendas de alquiler. Fue Antonio Palacios qui\u00e9n le recomend\u00f3 trabajar con los hermanos Otamendi, que le incluyeron en su\u00a0Compa\u00f1\u00eda Madrile\u00f1a Urbanizadora, donde logr\u00f3 una plaza de arquitecto en colaboraci\u00f3n con\u00a0Juli\u00e1n Otamendi, en el proyecto de unos de los edificios de la Avenida Reina Victoria (Edificios Titanic) y en una barriada de hoteles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En el a\u00f1o 1920 presenta en la Exposici\u00f3n Nacional de Bellas Artes de Madrid el\u00a0<i>Proyecto del Monumento a la Civilizaci\u00f3n<\/i>, premiado con una tercera medalla de bronce.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Carlos Otamendi, le encarg\u00f3 entonces la presa\u00a0<i>El Salto<\/i>\u00a0en El Carpio (al que en realidad solo ten\u00eda que dar forma ya que el proyecto estaba hecho), que concluy\u00f3 en 1922. Abandon\u00f3 la\u00a0Compa\u00f1\u00eda Madrile\u00f1a Urbanizadora\u00a0un a\u00f1o despu\u00e9s. En 1925, en la Exposici\u00f3n de Artes Decorativas e Industriales Modernas en Par\u00eds, le llam\u00f3 la atenci\u00f3n el\u00a0<i>Pabell\u00f3n de la URSS<\/i>\u00a0del arquitecto\u00a0Konstant\u00edn M\u00e9lnikov, ejemplo de\u00a0arquitectura constructivista.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En 1924 se le encarga la\u00a0<i>Presa de\u00a0Alcal\u00e1 del R\u00edo<\/i>\u00a0y el\u00a0<i>Embalse del\u00a0Encinarejo<\/i>, e interviene en la parte arquitect\u00f3nica del\u00a0<i>Salto del J\u00e1ndula<\/i>. Otros edificios importantes son: los\u00a0<i>Edificios Titanic<\/i>\u00a0en la\u00a0Avenida de Reina Victoria, esquina a la\u00a0Glorieta de Cuatro Caminos\u00a0(1919-21), de la mencionada Compa\u00f1\u00eda Madrile\u00f1a Urbanizadora.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En 1927, se incorpora a la Directiva de la Sociedad Central de Arquitectos como contador; proyecta el\u00a0<i>Ateneo Mercantil<\/i>\u00a0de Valencia, en colaboraci\u00f3n con J.M. Castell, y la nueva iglesia de\u00a0Tetu\u00e1n de las Victorias. Todo ello qued\u00f3 reflejado en la encuesta sobre la arquitectura moderna del n.\u00ba 32 de la revista\u00a0<i>La Gaceta Literaria<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Su obra temprana m\u00e1s importante es la\u00a0<i>gasolinera de Petr\u00f3leos Porto P\u00ed<\/i>,\u00a0en la\u00a0calle de Alberto Aguilera\u00a0n.\u00ba 18 de los\u00a0bulevares madrile\u00f1osen 1927, que\u00a0Carlos Flores\u00a0considera una de las obras claves de la\u00a0Generaci\u00f3n del 25, de la que el propio art\u00edfice dice que no tiene ning\u00fan estilo, naciendo lo que \u00e9l llam\u00f3 \u201carquitectura ingenier\u00eda\u00bb, y que pondr\u00e1 en pr\u00e1ctica en su anteproyecto para el concurso del\u00a0Aeropuerto de Barajas\u00a0en 1929. Al a\u00f1o siguiente funda la revista\u00a0<i>Cortijos y Rascacielos<\/i>\u00a0(1930-1954), que llegar\u00e1 a sacar 80 n\u00fameros en dos etapas interrumpidas por la\u00a0Guerra Civil espa\u00f1ola. En ella se atiende a la arquitectura de vanguardia, a la arquitectura rural y a la arquitectura del pasado. Adem\u00e1s de ser un medio de expresi\u00f3n para el propio arquitecto para exponer sus ideas y publicar sus proyectos. Es elegido Vocal de Arquitectura de la Junta Directiva del C\u00edrculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid, en 1930.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tuvo un lapso de tiempo en el que solo se dedic\u00f3 a la construcci\u00f3n del\u00a0edificio Coliseum\u00a0en la\u00a0Gran V\u00eda de Madrid\u00a0(1930-1933), realizado en colaboraci\u00f3n con\u00a0Pedro Muguruza. Entre 1934 y 1935 realiza el\u00a0<i>Edificio de Viviendas<\/i>, en la\u00a0avenida de Men\u00e9ndez Pelayo, obra ejemplar del Racionalismo Madrile\u00f1o que cierra el periodo anterior a la Guerra Civil. He entered the School of Architecture in 1913, finishing his career with twenty-three years, as a member of a promotion integrated by seventeen new architects. Among his teachers he had Ricardo Vel\u00e1zquez Bosco, director of the School between 1910-1918, Modesto L\u00f3pez Otero and Antonio Palacios. In 1917 he had already entered the studio of Antonio Palacios, to pay for his last two years of career. With Palacios, he will later become Head of the delineation of the 1919 Contest for the headquarters of the C\u00edrculo de Bellas Artes, which, when deserted, was finally commissioned by Antonio Palacios. In this study, he would coincide with Pedro Muguruza, with whom he later made the Coliseum Building project in Madrid&#8217;s Gran V\u00eda, with a theater program and rental housing. Other important buildings are: the Titanic Buildings on Avenida de Reina Victoria, corner of the Glorieta de Cuatro Caminos (1919-21), of the aforementioned Compa\u00f1\u00eda Madrile\u00f1a Urbanizadora.<\/p>\n<div class=\"thumb tright\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"thumbinner\">\n<div class=\"thumbcaption\">In 1927, he joined the <em>Board of the Central Society of Architects<\/em> as an accountant; projects the Mercantile Athenaeum of Valencia, in collaboration with J.M. Castell, and the new church of Tetu\u00e1n de las Victorias.
