En 1957 Paulo Mendes da Rocha dise\u00f1a la silla \u00abPaulistano\u00bb para los salones del\u00a0Gimnasio<\/a>\u00a0del Club Atl\u00e9tico de\u00a0S\u00e3o\u00a0Paulo. Conviene rescatar esta breve descripci\u00f3n en la que t\u00e9cnica en el dise\u00f1o y compromiso social parecen dos caras de una misma moneda:<\/p>\n

\n

\u00abLa silla est\u00e1 hecha con tubo de acero, que es muy barato. Se puede comprar de la medida exacta, se manda curvar y se le da solo un punto de soldadura. El revestimiento se hace donde uno quiere. Es una silla hecha para costar unos setenta u ochenta euros, pero los fabricantes de muebles dicen que nadie te valora si vendes barato. Esta silla la hice en 1957. El primer revestimiento lo cosi\u00f3 la mujer del herrero que curv\u00f3 el acero\u00bb.1<\/sup><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

A pesar de pertenecer a la familia\u00a0moderna\u00a0<\/em>de sillas realizadas a base de tubos curvados (Mart Stam, Marcel Breuer, Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe…), Mendes da Rocha pone el acento -casi 30 a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s- en dos aspectos fundamentales del dise\u00f1o: la sobriedad en lo econ\u00f3mico y la flexibilidad en la adaptaci\u00f3n final del objeto por parte del usuario. Quiz\u00e1 estos dos par\u00e1metros conviertan al\u00a0tipo\u00a0<\/em>\u00abPaulistano\u00bb en un rudimentario elemento mueble, menos\u00a0refinado\u00a0<\/em>que sus predecesores: bastan una tuber\u00eda de calefacci\u00f3n de una pulgada -esas que tanto gustaban a Sota- y un tejido bien resistente; sobran el cuero, los cromados y en general cualquier atisbo de exclusividad como se\u00f1al del buen gusto o del sedentarismo. La belleza es atributo universal e inclusivo.<\/p>\n

Tal vez lo verdaderamente\u00a0moderno\u00a0<\/em>no haya sido a\u00fan realizado como\u00a0leg\u00edtima aspiraci\u00f3n colectiva, la idea del dise\u00f1o para todos no como una utop\u00eda o ente abstracto, sino como verdad pr\u00e1ctica -o po\u00e9tica- que podamos desarrollar desde la elegante\u00a0sencillez<\/a>\u00a0de un artificio cualquiera:<\/p>\n

\n

\u00abLa idea del dise\u00f1o industrial era que la industria producir\u00eda a escala de la poblaci\u00f3n. Eso solo puede imaginarse en un mundo\u00a0moderno; tan moderno como todav\u00eda no ha logrado serlo hoy, moderno como expectativa, no como algo conseguido, porque ese es el\u00a0verdadero sentido de lo moderno, el de un mundo que produce para todos\u00bb.2<\/sup><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Seguimos pues a la expectativa de lo\u00a0moderno<\/em>.<\/p>\n

En 1957 Paulo Mendes d\u00e1 Rocha dese\u00f1a a cadeira \u00abPaulistano\u00bb para os sal\u00f3ns do Ximnasio<\/a> do Club Atl\u00e9tico de S\u00e3o Paulo. Conv\u00e9n rescatar esta breve descrici\u00f3n na que t\u00e9cnica no dese\u00f1o e compromiso social parecen d\u00faas caras dunha mesma moeda:<\/p>\n

\u00abA cadeira est\u00e1 feita con tubo de aceiro, que \u00e9 moi barato. P\u00f3dese comprar da medida exacta, m\u00e1ndase curvar e d\u00e1selle s\u00f3 un punto de soldadura. O revestimento faise onde un quere. \u00c9 unha cadeira feita para custar uns setenta ou oitenta euros, pero os fabricantes de mobles din que ningu\u00e9n che valora se vendes barato. Esta cadeira f\u00edxena en 1957. O primeiro revestimento coseuno a muller do ferreiro que curv\u00f3 o aceiro\u00bb.1<\/sup><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

A pesar de pertencer \u00e1 familia moderna<\/em> de cadeiras realizadas a base de tubos curvados ( Mart Stam, Marcel Breuer, Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe…), Mendes d\u00e1 Rocha pon o acento -case 30 anos despois- en dous aspectos fundamentais do dese\u00f1o: a sobriedade no econ\u00f3mico e a flexibilidade na adaptaci\u00f3n final do obxecto por parte do usuario. Quiz\u00e1 estes dous par\u00e1metros convertan ao tipo<\/em> \u00abPaulistano\u00bb nun rudimentario elemento moble, menos refinado<\/em> que os seus predecesores: bastan unha tubaxe de calefacci\u00f3n dunha polgada -esas que tanto gustaban a Sota- e un tecido ben resistente; sobran o coiro, os cromados e en xeral calquera indicio de exclusividade como sinal do bo gusto ou do sedentarismo. A beleza \u00e9 atributo universal e inclusivo.<\/p>\n

Talvez o verdadeiramente moderno<\/em> non fose a\u00ednda realizado como lex\u00edtima aspiraci\u00f3n colectiva, a idea do dese\u00f1o para todos non como unha utop\u00eda ou ente abstracto, sen\u00f3n como verdade pr\u00e1ctica -ou po\u00e9tica- que podamos desenvolver desde a elegante sinxeleza<\/a> dun artificio calquera:<\/p>\n

In 1957 Paulo Mendes da Rocha designs the chair \u00abPaulistano\u00bb for the lounges of the Gymnasium<\/a> of S\u00e3o Paulo’s Athletic Club. It suits to rescue this brief description in technical which in the design and social commitment they look like two faces of the same currency:<\/p>\n

\n

\u00abThe chair is done by pipe of steel, which is very cheap. It is possible to buy of the exact measure, gets about itself to curl and a point of weld is given him only. The coating is done where one wants. It is a chair done to cost approximately seventy or eighty Euros, but the manufacturers of furniture say that nobody values you if you sell reduction sale. I did this chair in 1957. The first coating it was sewed by the wife of the blacksmith who curled the steel\u00bb.1<\/sup><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In spite of belonging to the modern<\/em> family of chairs realized based on pipes curled (Mart Stam, Marcel Breuer,\u00a0Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe …), Mendes da Rocha puts the accent – almost 30 years later – in two fundamental aspects of the design: the sobriety in the economic thing and the flexibility in the final adjustment of the object on the part of the user. Probably these two parameters convert to the type \u00abPaulistano\u00bb into a rudimentary element furniture, less refined<\/em> than his predecessors: there are enough a pipeline of heating of an inch – this that so much were pleasing to Jack – and a resistant well fabric; they exceed the leather, the cromados and in general any observation of exclusivity as sign of the good taste or of the sedentarismo. The beauty is a universal and inclusive attribute.<\/p>\n

Maybe the really modern<\/em> thing has not been still realized as legitimate collective aspiration, the idea of the design for all not as a Utopia or abstract entity, but as practical truth – or poetics – that we could develop from the elegant simplicity<\/a> of an artifice anyone:<\/p>\n

\n

\u00abThe idea of the industrial design was that the industry would produce to scale of the population. It can imagine alone it in a modern world; so modern as still it has not managed it to be today, modern as expectation, not as anything obtained, because this it is the real sense of the modern thing, that of a world that produces for all\u00bb.2<\/sup><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
