Cenicacelaya recibi\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n el t\u00edtulo de M\u00e1ster en Dise\u00f1o Urbano por la Escuela de Arquitectura de Oxford en 1978 y se doctor\u00f3 por la Universidad de Navarra en 1984. Ambos han sido Visiting Scholars del Institute for the Arts and the Humanities de la Fundaci\u00f3n John Paul Getty de Los \u00c1ngeles y han impartido clase en la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad del Pais Vasco, donde Javier Cenicacelaya es Catedr\u00e1tico de Composici\u00f3n Arquitect\u00f3nica desde 1993, y en la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad de Miami, donde Cenicacelaya alcanz\u00f3 el cargo de Dean, adem\u00e1s de en muchos otros centros nacionales e internacionales.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fundaron en 1988 la revista internacional de arquitectura Composici\u00f3n Arquitect\u00f3nica Art &amp; Architecture, que se convertir\u00eda en un referente internacional para la arquitectura cl\u00e1sica contempor\u00e1nea y el retorno a la tradici\u00f3n de la arquitectura de su tiempo. Esta revista forma parte de una amplia trayectoria reivindicativa de alternativas arquitect\u00f3nicas olvidadas por el fundamentalismo vanguardista, en la que podemos encontrar la organizaci\u00f3n de exposiciones como Joze Plecnik 1872-1957, Arquitectura y Ciudad (1986), y Arquitectura Neocl\u00e1sica en el Pa\u00eds Vasco (1990), exhibidas en varias ciudades de Espa\u00f1a, as\u00ed como frecuentes conferencias y clases tanto en nuestro pa\u00eds como en el extranjero y un gran n\u00famero de publicaciones de libros y art\u00edculos sobre una amplia tem\u00e1tica.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Su trabajo se ha desarrollado fundamentalmente en Bilbao, donde fundaron su estudio en 1983, contribuyendo desde entonces con sus numerosas intervenciones arquitect\u00f3nicas en el \u00e1mbito vizca\u00edno a que se consolidara una forma de hacer arquitectura alejada de los cors\u00e9s formales impuestos por la vanguardia arquitect\u00f3nica. Abogando por hacer uso de cuantos recursos arquitect\u00f3nicos pudieran ser v\u00e1lidos hoy en d\u00eda, reintegraron las formas, lenguajes y materiales de la tradici\u00f3n al conjunto de herramientas disponibles para el arquitecto contempor\u00e1neo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Entre sus obras m\u00e1s representativas en este sentido podemos destacar el Centro Rural de La Rigada (Musques), la sala multiusos del Colegio Sagrada Familia de Derio, el edificio de oficinas y centro cultural de Durango, la ampliaci\u00f3n y rehabilitaci\u00f3n de una casa en Gald\u00e1cano, todos ellos en Vizcaya, y su contribuci\u00f3n a la reconstrucci\u00f3n de la Rue Lacken de Bruselas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El Centro Rural fue encargado por el Ayuntamiento de Musques para las reuniones de la comunidad local. Aloja un sal\u00f3n, aseos y, en una planta inferior, duchas para los que juegan en un front\u00f3n cercano. Est\u00e1 construido con m\u00e9todos tradicionales, a base de muros de carga y estructura de cerchas madera. Se utiliza el orden toscano, como el m\u00e1s rural de los \u00f3rdenes, en los p\u00f3rticos adosados al edificio, destinados a proteger a la gente de la lluvia, y a servir de punto de encuentro comunitario.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La sala del colegio de Derio deb\u00eda servir para diferentes usos: desde ceremonias y reuniones escolares, a zona de juego para los ni\u00f1os m\u00e1s peque\u00f1os en los d\u00edas de lluvia, pero tambi\u00e9n como s\u00edmbolo y representaci\u00f3n del conjunto de edificios del colegio. Est\u00e1 concebido como un gran sal\u00f3n, con un muro bajo para dar privacidad desde el exterior, y grandes ventanales a un nivel superior, para tener la m\u00e1xima iluminaci\u00f3n incluso en los d\u00edas m\u00e1s nublados. Una cubierta a dos aguas protege al edificio y crea unos frontones muy bajos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El edificio de Durango se alza en una de las fachadas de la plaza Ezkurdi, donde se encuentra el n\u00famero m\u00e1s significativo de edificios hist\u00f3ricos del municipio, convirti\u00e9ndose con ello en un emplazamiento particularmente sensible. En un solar \u00fanicamente 10 metros de anchura se requer\u00edan tres accesos distintos, para una sociedad cultural y para las oficinas de las plantas superiores. Con estos condicionantes, optaron por crear una \u00fanica entrada relevante que unificara las tres puertas requeridas, sin que el edificio perdiera la representatividad que su condici\u00f3n de sociedad cultural requer\u00eda. Una amplia galer\u00eda acristalada replica en las plantas superiores del edificio uno de los dispositivos clim\u00e1ticos tradicionales m\u00e1s com\u00fanmente utilizados en las arquitecturas propias de las regiones cant\u00e1bricas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En el caso de Gald\u00e1cano trabajaron sobre una casa existente, cuya existencia respetaron, rehabilit\u00e1ndola \u00a0y a\u00f1adi\u00e9ndole dos nuevos vol\u00famenes. La casa se sit\u00faa junto a un monumento nacional: la iglesia g\u00f3tica de Santa Mar\u00eda, por lo que resultaba fundamental mantener el car\u00e1cter de ese lugar y el equilibrio reposado entre lo vern\u00e1culo y lo monumental. Se reconstruy\u00f3 toda la estructura de la casa, que estaba en muy mal estado. Las nuevas adiciones proporcionaron los espacios adicionales requeridos por la familia. En ellas se usaron profusamente la madera y la piedra; con la casa tradicional vasca como referente formal y constructivo fundamental.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Su edificio de viviendas en la Rue de Lacken de Bruselas form\u00f3 parte de una innovadora y ambiciosa operaci\u00f3n que fue coordinada por el arquitecto belga Maurice Culot: la reconstrucci\u00f3n de una calle completa que a\u00f1os antes hab\u00eda sido eliminada del tejido urbano tradicional de la ciudad para albergar un gran edificio moderno. En este conjunto, los arquitectos que contribuyeron a su recuperaci\u00f3n, devolvieron a la zona la escala, los materiales y el lenguaje de la arquitectura marcadamente cl\u00e1sica que anteriormente la hab\u00eda caracterizado.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Adem\u00e1s de estas actuaciones, es tambi\u00e9n destacable su contribuci\u00f3n a la recuperaci\u00f3n de la imagen urbana de la ciudad de Bilbao, donde se encargaron de la restauraci\u00f3n de uno de sus m\u00e1s representativos edificios: el Palacio de la Diputaci\u00f3n de Vizcaya. Unha cuberta a d\u00faas augas protexe ao edificio e crea uns front\u00f3ns moi baixos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">No caso de Gald\u00e1cano traballaron sobre unha casa existente, cuxa existencia respectaron, rehabilit\u00e1ndoa e engad\u00edndolle dous novos volumes. A casa sit\u00faase xunto a un monumento nacional: a igrexa g\u00f3tica de Santa Mar\u00eda, polo que resultaba fundamental manter o car\u00e1cter dese lugar e o equilibrio repousado entre o vern\u00e1culo e o monumental. Reconstru\u00eduse toda a estrutura da casa, que estaba en moi mal estado. As novas adici\u00f3ns proporcionaron os espazos adicionais requiridos pola familia. Nelas us\u00e1ronse profusamente a madeira e a pedra; coa casa tradicional vasca como referente formal e construtivo fundamental.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">O seu edificio de vivendas na Rue de Lacken de Bruxelas formou parte dunha innovadora e ambiciosa operaci\u00f3n que foi coordinada polo arquitecto belga Maurice Culot: a reconstruci\u00f3n dunha r\u00faa completa que anos antes fora eliminada do tecido urbano tradicional da cidade para albergar un grande edificio moderno. Cenicacelaya got also M\u00e1ster&#8217;s title in Urban Design for the School of Architecture of Oxford in 1978 and took doctor&#8217;s degree for the University of Navarre in 1984. Both have been Visiting Scholars of the Institute for the Arts and the Humanities of the Foundation John Paul Getty of Los Angeles and have given class in the School of Architecture of the University of the Basque Country, where Javier Cenicacelaya is A Professor of Architectural Composition from 1993, and in the School of Architecture of the University of Miami, where Cenicacelaya reached the Dean&#8217;s cargo, besides in many other national and international centers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They founded in 1988 the international magazine of architecture Architectural Composition Art and Architecture, which would turn into an international modal for the classic contemporary architecture and the return to the tradition of the architecture of his time. This magazine forms a part of a wide path reivindicativa of architectural alternatives forgotten by the ultramodern fundamentalism, in that we can find the organization of exhibitions as Joze Plecnik 1872-1957, Architecture and City (1986), and Neoclassic Architecture in the Country Vasco (1990), exhibited in several cities of Spain, as well as frequent conferences and classes so much in our country as abroad and a great number of publications of books and articles about a wide subject matter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His work has developed fundamentally in Bilbao, where they founded his study in 1983, contributing since then with his numerous architectural interventions in the area vizca\u00edno that there was consolidated a way of doing architecture removed from the formal corsets imposed by the architectural forefront. It lodges a lounge, bathrooms and, in a low plant, you douche for those who play in a nearby fronton. It is constructed by traditional methods, based on walls of load and structure of cerchas wood.
