La nueva Kunsthaus de Graz es un museo de arte que se comunica con los viandantes a trav\u00e9s de la fachada, en espera de sus respuestas. Sus arquitectos, los brit\u00e1nicos Peter Cook y Colin Fournier, la proyectaron para propagar el trabajo de artistas contempor\u00e1neos y ser, en s\u00ed misma, un punto de reuni\u00f3n para escuchar, responder e intercambiar ideas. La ciudad de Graz<\/strong>
\nSiendo la segunda ciudad del pa\u00eds, con una poblaci\u00f3n de 270.000 habitantes y gran reputaci\u00f3n en investigaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica, Graz se ha mostrado hist\u00f3ricamente abierta hacia las nuevas ideas y ha sido valiente al yuxtaponer edificios antiguos y modernos en su trazado urbano.<\/p>\n

A pesar de ello, no siempre ha existido un equilibrio en su estructura social. La historia moderna de Austria relata su incorporaci\u00f3n a la Alemania nazi en 1938 y, m\u00e1s recientemente, el resurgir de los xen\u00f3fobos durante los noventa. El equilibrio social es un objetivo pol\u00edtico de la sociedad contempor\u00e1nea de Graz, compromiso que ya qued\u00f3 expl\u00edcito al solicitar ser proclamada \u00abCiudad de Derechos Humanos\u00bb. Con este nombramiento la ciudad invoc\u00f3 el flujo de informaci\u00f3n, la libertad de opini\u00f3n y una mejora en la relaci\u00f3n con los inmigrantes. Para ello, el Consejo Municipal de Graz ha puesto en marcha diversas iniciativas, por ejemplo, organizando actividades de capacitaci\u00f3n en materia de derechos humanos para funcionarios locales o, en los colegios, actividades de educaci\u00f3n contra el racismo.<\/p>\n

La piel azul de la Kunsthaus es una pantalla de baja resoluci\u00f3n, pero del tama\u00f1o de todo el edificio, que reproduce textos e im\u00e1genes en movimiento.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

La Casa de las Artes<\/strong>
\nTambi\u00e9n en el 2000, y como parte del programa preparativo para ser Graz la \u00abCapital Europea de la Cultura\u00bb, se organiz\u00f3 un concurso internacional para dise\u00f1ar la nueva Kunsthaus en un solar de la rivera del r\u00edo Mur. El grupo Spacelab, dirigido por Cook y Fournier, gan\u00f3 con una propuesta que tomaba al viandante por sorpresa. Una vez construido el edificio, son todav\u00eda muchos los que se cuestionan si \u00e9ste se encuentra fuera de contexto e incluso si no es un tanto arrogante frente al denso vecindario. A pesar de ello, y a\u00fan admitiendo la potente presencia de sus lucernarios, que aparecen como salpullidos en su piel azul, ser\u00eda precipitado establecer conclusiones sin realizar un an\u00e1lisis m\u00e1s profundo.<\/p>\n

Vista desde la calle, la Kunsthaus vuela sobre la hist\u00f3rica Eisernes (1847), el primer edificio de estructura met\u00e1lica construido en Europa. A \u00e9l se enlaza delicadamente por medio de una plataforma de observaci\u00f3n llamada \u00abla aguja\u00bb, que ofrece vistas panor\u00e1micas de la ciudad y sus monta\u00f1as circundantes. Comparado con el hist\u00f3rico edificio vecino, que tiene fachadas y planta perfectamente rectangulares, uno no puede realmente referirse al Kunsthaus como edificio de tenga una fachada o un tejado absolutamente determinado. Es m\u00e1s bien una piel compuesta por un millar de planchas de fibra de vidrio acr\u00edlico, que est\u00e1 agujereada por diecis\u00e9is toberas para dejar entrar la luz y el aire fresco. Estos lucernarios son, adem\u00e1s, perforaciones que enmarcan vistas espec\u00edficas del paisaje e incluso, desde uno de ellos, los visitantes pueden contemplar la pintoresca torre del Reloj, emblema de la ciudad.<\/p>\n

Bajo esta burbuja azul hay una sencilla triangulaci\u00f3n de acero, revestida con una l\u00e1mina del mismo material, que geometriza la doble curvatura, y, entre ambas, un total de 925 anillos fluorescentes de 40 watios. Cada anillo de luz funciona como un p\u00edxel ya que est\u00e1 controlado por un sistema inform\u00e1tico; un sencillo ingenio que convierte la piel azul en una gran pantalla, del tama\u00f1o de todo el edificio, donde se pueden reproducir textos e im\u00e1genes en movimiento.<\/p>\n

Comunicando con la ciudad<\/strong>
\nDebido al reconocimiento internacional que Peter Cook alcanz\u00f3 en los a\u00f1os sesenta como miembro del m\u00edtico grupo Archigram, autores de incre\u00edbles dibujos de arquitectura que aunaban la cultura Pop y la creencia en tecnolog\u00eda para generar posibilidades y alternativas a nuestro modo de vida; no pocos han sido los cr\u00edticos que catalogan la Kunsthaus como la realizaci\u00f3n del viejo sue\u00f1o de construir un edificio a partir de aquellos dibujos. Algunos han llegado incluso a afirmar que esta obra pertenece al siglo pasado.<\/p>\n

La Kunsthaus o \u00abel extraterrestre amistoso\u00bb, como lo llaman sus autores, va m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de ser meramente un gesto ir\u00f3nico ligado a un nuevo s\u00edmbolo de Graz. Esta obra se ofrece como un lugar de reuni\u00f3n para percibir diferentes voces en sociedad. Artistas y comisarios de exposiciones pueden comunicar sus creencias, deseos y emociones, a la ciudad a trav\u00e9s del alzado, y as\u00ed el edificio en su conjunto se convierte en un icono contempor\u00e1neo de comunicaci\u00f3n. En este sentido, la Kunsthaus refleja una actitud, una libertad de palabra, que es cuesti\u00f3n primordial en la \u00abCiudad de Derechos Humanos\u00bb. Su alzado no es un mero mensaje sino que provoca un di\u00e1logo con la ciudad misma.<\/p>\n

Aparte de satisfacer los requerimientos funcionales de todo museo, este edificio da la ciudad una nueva forma de comunicaci\u00f3n que anima a grupos radicales a cuestionar su comportamiento: la fachada reescribible de ideas, los distintos lucernarios apuntando a diferentes puntos de vista y la flexibilidad del edificio amold\u00e1ndose al hist\u00f3rico edificio vecino. La Kunsthaus en Graz produce efectos que pueden llegar a cambiar mentalidades.<\/p>\n

The new Kunsthaus of Graz is a museum of art that one communicates with the viandantes across the front, in wait of his answers. His architects, the Britishers Peter Cook and Colin Fournier, projected it to spread the work of contemporary artists and to be, in yes same, a point of meeting to listen, to answer and to exchange ideas. His image already is a new symbol of Graz: a spongy navy blue volume that floats on a historical building of the illustrious Austrian city, which was the \u00abEuropean Capital of the Culture\u00bb during the year 2003, beside having been, in September, 2000, first \u00abCity of Human rights\u00bb declared in Europe.<\/p>\n

The city of Graz<\/p>\n

Being the second city of the country, with a population of 270.000 inhabitants and great reputation in scientific investigation, Graz has proved to be historically opened towards the new ideas and has been brave on having juxtaposed ancient and modern buildings in his urban tracing.<\/p>\n

In spite of it, not always a balance has existed in his social structure. The modern history of Austria Nazi reports his incorporation to the Germany in 1938 and, more recently, to re-arise from the xenophobic ones during the nineties. The social balance is a political aim of the contemporary company of Graz, commitment that already remained explicit on having requested to there be proclaimed \u00bb City of Human rights \u00ab. With this appointment the city invoked the flow of information, the freedom of opinion and an improvement in the relation with the immigrants. For it, the Municipal Advice of Graz has started diverse initiatives, for example, organizing activities of training as for human rights for local civil servants or, in the colleges, activities of education against the racism.<\/p>\n

The House of the Arts<\/p>\n

Also in 2000, and as part of the program preparation to be Graz the \u00abEuropean Capital of the Culture\u00bb, organized an international contest to design the new Kunsthaus in a lot of the rivera of the river Mur. The group Spacelab, directed by Cook and Fournier, won with an offer that was taking the viandante as a surprise. Once constructed the building, they are still great those who question if this one is out of context and even if it is not rather arrogant opposite to the dense neighborhood. In spite of it, and still admitting the powerful presence of his lucernarios, which they appear as rashes in his blue skin, it would be precipitated to establish conclusions without realizing a deeper analysis.<\/p>\n

Sight from the street, the Kunsthaus flies on the historical Eisernes (1847), the first building of metallic structure constructed in Europe. He is connected delicately by means of a platform of so called observation \u00abthe needle\u00bb, which offers conference panoramic of the city and his surrounding mountains. Compared with the historical neighboring building, which has fronts and plants perfectly rectangular, one cannot refer really to the Kunsthaus as building of have a front or an absolutely certain roof. It is rather a skin composed by a thousand of plates of fiber of acrylic glass, which is pierced by sixteen tewels to stop to enter the light and the fresh air. These lucernarios are, in addition, perforations that frame conference specific of the landscape and even, from one of them, the visitors can contemplate the picturesque tower of the Clock, emblem of the city.<\/p>\n

Under this blue bubble there is a simple triangulation of steel, re-dressed in a sheet of the same material, that geometriza the double curvature, and, between both, a total of 925 fluorescent rings of 40 watios. Every ring of light works as a pixel since it is controlled by an IT system; a simple ingenuity that turns the blue skin on a great screen, of the size of the whole building, where texts and images can be reproduced in movement.<\/p>\n

Reporting with the city<\/strong><\/p>\n

Due to the international recognition that Peter Cook reached in the sixties as member of the mythical group Archigram, authors of incredible drawings of architecture who were uniting the culture Pop and the belief in technology to generate possibilities and alternatives to our way of life; not few ones have been the critics who catalogue the Kunsthaus as the accomplishment of the old dream of constructing a building from those drawings. Some of them have managed to affirm even that this work belongs to last century<\/p>\n

The Kunsthaus or \u00abthe friendly extraterrestrial being\u00bb, since his authors call it, goes beyond being merely an ironic gesture tied to a new symbol of Graz. This work offers as a place of meeting to perceive different voices in company. Artists and commissioners of exhibitions can communicate his beliefs, desires and emotions, to the city across the gathering, and this way the building in his set turns into a contemporary icon of communication. In this respect, the Kunsthaus reflects an attitude, a freedom of word, which is a basic question in the \u00abCity of Human rights\u00bb. His gathering is not a mere message but it provokes a dialog with the city itself.<\/p>\n

Apart from satisfying the functional requirements of any museum, this building gives the city new form of communication that encourages to radical groups to question his behavior: the front reescribible of ideas, the different lucernarios pointing at different points of view and the flexibility of the building being molded to the historical neighboring building. The Kunsthaus in Graz produces effects that can manage to change mentalities.<\/p>\n

Vista dende a r\u00faa, a Kunsthaus voa sobre a hist\u00f3rica Eisernes (1847), o primeiro edificio de estrutura met\u00e1lica constru\u00eddo en Europa. A el enl\u00e1zase delicadamente por medio dunha plataforma de observaci\u00f3n chamada \u00aba agulla\u00bb, que ofrece vistas panor\u00e1micas da cidade e as s\u00faas monta\u00f1as circundantes. Estes lucernarios son, ademais, perforaci\u00f3ns que enmarcan vistas espec\u00edficas da paisaxe e mesmo, dende un deles, os visitantes poden contemplar a pintoresca torre do Reloxo, emblema da cidade.<\/p>\n

Debido ao reco\u00f1ecemento internacional que Peter Cook alcanzou nos anos sesenta como membro do m\u00edtico grupo Archigram, autores de incribles debuxos de arquitectura que xuntaban a cultura Pop e a crenza en tecnolox\u00eda para xerar posibilidades e alternativas ao noso modo de vida; non poucos foron os cr\u00edticos que catalogan a Kunsthaus como a realizaci\u00f3n do vello sono de constru\u00edr un edificio a partir daqueles debuxos. Alg\u00fans chegaron mesmo a afirmar que esta obra pertence ao s\u00e9culo pasado.<\/p>\n
