No s\u00e9 si he visto alguna vez en alguna foto una expresi\u00f3n de felicidad<\/a> tan completa, tan absoluta y tan radiante como en \u00e9sta.<\/p>\n

Y a poco que nos fijemos veremos que es una foto bien triste. El ni\u00f1o se llama Werfel. Tiene seis a\u00f1os y vive en el orfanato Am Himmel<\/em>, en Viena. Estamos en 1946. La Segunda Guerra Mundial ha terminado el a\u00f1o pasado y \u00e9l se ha quedado solo en el mundo.<\/p>\n

Hace un minuto la Cruz Roja Americana le ha regalado un par de zapatos nuevos.<\/p>\n

Si nos fijamos bien en la foto concluiremos que el ni\u00f1o est\u00e1 bien alimentado y bien vestido. Los zapatos que tiene est\u00e1n algo rotos, s\u00ed, sobre todo en las punteras, pero cumplen muy aceptablemente su funci\u00f3n. El resto de su indumentaria no muestra el m\u00e1s m\u00ednimo lujo, pero tampoco carencia alguna.<\/p>\n

Todo nos hace pensar que, dado el lugar y la fecha, ese orfanato cumple encomiablemente su funci\u00f3n. Me imagino las terribles limitaciones y dificultades, y la gran heroicidad de quienes trabajan en \u00e9l. Me emociono.<\/p>\n

Me gustar\u00eda saber qu\u00e9 fue de ese ni\u00f1o, una pobre v\u00edctima de la guerra, hu\u00e9rfano tan peque\u00f1o, sin nada ni nadie en el mundo destruido y hundido.<\/p>\n

Y, sin embargo, ha recibido un regalo inesperado: Un regalo que ya no es el objeto en s\u00ed mismo (unos magn\u00edficos zapatos), que ni siquiera necesita perentoriamente para sobrevivir (los que ten\u00eda le pod\u00edan seguir haciendo apa\u00f1o durante unos cuantos meses, o incluso a\u00f1os), sino la palpable demostraci\u00f3n de que tiene a alguien, de que alguien, de alguna manera abstracta, indirecta y remota, se ha acordado de \u00e9l y le ha hecho un regalo.<\/p>\n

Vamos, de que alguien le quiere.<\/p>\n

Esa alegr\u00eda tan pura, ese momento epif\u00e1nico de tan alta felicidad, nos toca el coraz\u00f3n y nos muestra muchas cosas. A m\u00ed, sobre todo, lo tonto que soy.<\/p>\n

En estos tiempos de crisis, de pena, de hast\u00edo, que parece que no van a terminar nunca, veo a este ni\u00f1o y siento una enorme envidia. Pienso en mi primer proyecto, mi primer encargo cuando no ten\u00eda nada, mi primer dinero ganado con mi trabajo honrado. Tambi\u00e9n recuerdo n\u00edtidamente mis primeras ilusiones y mis primeros temores profesionales, mi arranque a la vida, en un mundo ni hostil ni amigable, en unas circunstancias que no entend\u00eda pero que afront\u00e9 y disfrut\u00e9 tanto como pude.<\/p>\n

\u00bfQu\u00e9 tengo ahora? Much\u00edsimo m\u00e1s que entonces, pero me obstino en no quererlo ver. Por eso digo que soy tonto.<\/p>\n

Ya estamos en fechas prenavide\u00f1as. Sirva esta foto para desearos zapatos nuevos a todos, naturalmente, pero, sobre todo, que saqu\u00e9is del armario esa alma pura y feliz que los sepa apreciar y disfrutar, y esa alegr\u00eda invencible en medio del desastre.<\/p>\n

A todos los arquitectos j\u00f3venes os deseo un encargo, un trabajo, un regalo, un est\u00edmulo que os dispare a la vida nueva y feliz que viene tras la destrucci\u00f3n y el horror (o en medio de ellos), y una mirada desprejuiciada a este mundo horrible y destruido, pero en el que, de vez en cuando, muy de vez en cuando, aparece alguien que viene de muy lejos y os trae unos zapatos nuevos.<\/p>\n

Do not be if I have seen at some time in any photo an expression of so complete, happiness so absolute and so radiant as in this one.<\/p>\n

And to so that we notice we will see that it is a sad well photo. The child is called Werfel. He is six years old and Am Himmel<\/em> lives in the orphanage, in Vienna. We are in 1946. The Second World war has ended last year and he has remained alone in the world.<\/p>\n

A minute ago the Red American Cross has given him a pair of new shoes.<\/p>\n

If we concentrate well on the photo we will conclude that the child is fed well and dressed good. The shoes that it has are slightly torn, yes, especially in the toes, but they fulfill very acceptably his function. The rest of his apparel does not show the most minimal luxury, nor any lack.<\/p>\n

Everything makes us think that, in view of the place and the date, this orphanage fulfills encomiablemente his function. I imagine the terrible limitations and difficulties, and the great heroism of those who are employed at him. I get excited.<\/p>\n

I would like to know what belonged to this child, a poor victim of the war, so small orphan, without anything or anybody in the destroyed and sunked world.<\/p>\n

And, nevertheless, it has received an unexpected gift: A gift that already is not the object in yes same (a few magnificent shoes), which he does not even need urgently to survive (those that it had could continue doing repair to him for a few months, or enclosedly years), but the palpable demonstration of which it has someone, of whom someone, somehow abstract, indirect and remote, has remembered him and has done a gift to him.<\/p>\n

We go, of that someone him wants.<\/p>\n

This so pure happiness, this moment epif\u00e1nico of so high happiness, we touch the heart and it shows us many things. To me, especially, the silly thing that I am.<\/p>\n

In these times of crisis, of a sorrow, of tedium, which seems that they are never going to end, I see this child and sit an enormous envy. I think about my first project, my first order when it did not have anything, my first money gained with my honest work. Also I remember brightly my first illusions and my first professional dreads, my take-off to the life, in a world neither hostile nor amicable, in a few circumstances that he did not understand but that I confronted and enjoyed so much since could.<\/p>\n

What have I now? Much more that at the time, but I am obstinate in not wanting to see. Because of it I say that I am silly.<\/p>\n

E, con todo, recibiu un agasallo inesperado: Un agasallo que xa non \u00e9 o obxecto en si mesmo (uns magn\u00edficos zapatos), que nin sequera necesita perentoriamente para sobrevivir (os que ti\u00f1a pod\u00edanlle seguir facendo apa\u00f1o durante uns cantos meses, ou ata anos), sen\u00f3n a palpable demostraci\u00f3n de que ten a algu\u00e9n, de que algu\u00e9n, dalg\u00fan xeito abstracta, indirecta e remota, acordouse del e f\u00edxolle un agasallo.<\/p>\n

Imos, de que algu\u00e9n lle quere.<\/p>\n
