Degradaci\u00f3n pura&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Quincey, con su sutil y macabro humor, a\u00fana la filosof\u00eda est\u00e9tica y la moral planteando por medio del relato de una sucesi\u00f3n de cr\u00edmenes horripilantes, muy a la moda victoriana, la relaci\u00f3n entre ambas. Subyace de fondo la conclusi\u00f3n de que el placer contemplativo es m\u00e1s est\u00e9tico que moral y que lo bello no ha de coincidir necesariamente con lo bueno.<sup><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/sup> La fascinaci\u00f3n est\u00e9tica que conlleva la visi\u00f3n del horror, de lo feo, nos devuelve a la inc\u00f3moda sensaci\u00f3n moral sobre lo que est\u00e1 bien y lo que est\u00e1 mal. En <em>Frankenstein o el moderno Prometeo<\/em> de Mary W. Shelley, joya g\u00f3tica de la era victoriana, el monstruo convierte sus aparentemente bien intencionados y torpes actos en malos por su propia fealdad, su b\u00fasqueda de la pureza, o de la verdad, le lleva a un camino sin salida porque su imagen, a la vista de los que le rodean, no puede albergar bien alguno y no esperan de \u00e9l otra cosa que no sea maldad, aboc\u00e1ndole al fina a ella.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Partiendo del otro extremo est\u00e9tico, de lo bello, encontramos en <em>el Banquete<\/em> de Plat\u00f3n, a quien conviene recurrir de vez en cuando por aquello de ir al origen de las cosas, lo siguiente <em>\u201cla belleza es el esplendor de la verdad\u201d<\/em>. Belleza y verdad, y por extensi\u00f3n la justicia, son t\u00e9rminos equiparables para los griegos, que en la b\u00fasqueda de la verdad de las cosas hallan en la belleza el camino. No debemos olvidarnos tampoco, hablando de la est\u00e9tica de lo bello al Hegel del tratado <em>Est\u00e9tica<\/em>, en el que asocia la belleza a la <em>idea<\/em> de lo bello, y contin\u00faa <em>\u201c\u2026si decimos que la belleza es la idea, es porque belleza y verdad son id\u00e9nticas\u201d<\/em>. Belleza y verdad parecen ir de la mano, de lo que entonces deducimos que lo feo es falso&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La fascinaci\u00f3n est\u00e9tica, ya sea a trav\u00e9s de lo feo o de lo bello, busca encontrar la verdad de las cosas, su verdad cruda y \u00faltima y hace replantearse el camino moral para conseguirla. Mies hall\u00f3 en Santo Tom\u00e1s de Aquino su b\u00fasqueda de la verdad de las cosas y la \u201credujo\u201d constructiva y estructuralmente hasta hallar la expresi\u00f3n m\u00ednima, o b\u00e1sica, de las mismas, al igual que hizo con el espacio. Encontr\u00f3 la belleza de la arquitectura a trav\u00e9s de la verdad. M\u00e1s adelante llegaron otros y la banalizaron, la comercializaron y hasta la convirtieron en moda perseguida por los suplementos dominicales. Como antes dije, degradaci\u00f3n pura&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La persecuci\u00f3n de lo bello, y bellezas hay muchas pero verdades pocas, consume m\u00e1s tiempo del que deber\u00eda en algunas labores arquitect\u00f3nicas actuales, y a\u00fan consigui\u00e9ndola, aparentemente, la deja vac\u00eda en su interior, en su ser, quedando pues sin verdad. No puedo evitar pensar que son ocasiones perdidas. Pero no siendo la arquitectura la \u00fanica actividad sufridora de tal mal, si es la m\u00e1s permanente y visible y por ello deber\u00eda ser la m\u00e1s responsable de la calidad que ofrece, o deber\u00eda decir cualidad. En cualquier caso la responsabilidad va en cada uno.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ya no tendemos a asociar belleza y verdad y ya no hay canon de belleza patr\u00f3n con el que contrastar nuestras creaciones, como ese metro de platino e iridio que tienen en Par\u00eds, la <em>Ville Lumi\u00e8re,<\/em> m\u00e1s luz&#8230; a lo mejor no hace falta y seguro que no hace falta, pero eso no significa que no se deba buscar alguna que otra verdad y encontrar en ella lo que nos hace falta. Hay que elegir el camino a seguir.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Quiz\u00e1s por asociaci\u00f3n de ideas entre lo que est\u00e1 bien y lo que est\u00e1 mal, o sobre los caminos para conseguir ambos (pues ha de haber gente para todo), me acuerdo ahora de <em>El malvado Carabel<\/em>, novela del coru\u00f1\u00e9s Wenceslao Fern\u00e1ndez Fl\u00f3rez llevada al cine por un inmenso Fernando Fern\u00e1n G\u00f3mez en estado de gracia, que la dirigi\u00f3 y protagoniz\u00f3 en 1956; Amaro Carabel, harto de ver como su vida de honestidad y bondad no le lleva a ning\u00fan sitio de provecho decide armarse de valor para hacerse malvado y dedicarse al crimen, pensando que as\u00ed podr\u00e1 al fin alcanzar sus sue\u00f1os. Pero el camino del malo no es el que pensaba y, al contrario de lo que le ocurr\u00eda al Frankenstein de Shelley, sus actos abocan siempre a un final frustrante para sus intenciones criminales y acaba por hacer m\u00e1s bien que mal. Tambi\u00e9n los hay que empe\u00f1\u00e1ndose en hacer mal las cosas lo consiguen. M\u00e1s degradaci\u00f3n\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Desde Carabel hasta Mies, pasando por Plat\u00f3n y Hegel, Santo Tom\u00e1s y Frankenstein y el bueno de Quincey (todo v\u00eda Paris), llegamos a la conclusi\u00f3n de que los caminos del Se\u00f1or son inescrutables y quiz\u00e1s, solo quiz\u00e1s, pensamos con Machado que el camino se hace al andar, pero tambi\u00e9n es cierto que se dice que el hombre es el \u00fanico animal que tropieza dos ves en la misma piedra. Shelley, xoia g\u00f3tica da era victoriana, o monstro converte os seus aparentemente ben intencionados e torpes actos en malos pola s\u00faa propia fealdad, a s\u00faa procura da pureza, ou da verdade, l\u00e9valle a un cami\u00f1o sen sa\u00edda porque a s\u00faa imaxe, \u00e1 vista dos que lle rodean, non pode albergar ben alg\u00fan e non esperan del outra cousa que non sexa maldade, aboc\u00e1ndole ao fina a ela.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Partindo do outro extremo est\u00e9tico, do belo, atopamos no <em>Banquete de Plat\u00f3n<\/em>, a quen conv\u00e9n recorrer de cando en vez por aquilo de ir \u00e1 orixe das cousas, o seguinte <em>\u201ca beleza \u00e9 o esplendor da verdade\u201d<\/em>. Beleza e verdade, e por extensi\u00f3n a xustiza, son t\u00e9rminos equiparables para os gregos, que na procura da verdade das cousas achan na beleza o cami\u00f1o. Non debemos esquecernos tampouco, falando da est\u00e9tica do belo ao Hegel do tratado <em>Est\u00e9tica<\/em>, no que asocia a beleza \u00e1 idea do belo, e contin\u00faa <em>\u201c\u2026si dicimos que a beleza \u00e9 a idea, \u00e9 porque beleza e verdade son id\u00e9nticas\u201d<\/em>. Beleza e verdade parecen ir da man, do que ent\u00f3n deducimos que o feo \u00e9 falso&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A fascinaci\u00f3n est\u00e9tica, xa sexa a trav\u00e9s do feo ou do belo, busca atopar a verdade das cousas, a s\u00faa verdade cr\u00faa e \u00faltima e fai reformularse o cami\u00f1o moral para conseguila. Mies achou en Santo Tom\u00e1s de Aquino a s\u00faa procura da verdade das cousas e reduciuna\u201d constructiva e estructuralmente ata achar a expresi\u00f3n m\u00ednima, ou b\u00e1sica, das mesmas, do mesmo xeito que fixo co espazo. Atopou a beleza da arquitectura a trav\u00e9s da verdade. M\u00e1is adiante chegaron outros e a banalizaron, comercializ\u00e1rona e ata a converteron en moda perseguida polos suplementos dominicales. Como antes dixen, degradaci\u00f3n pura&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A persecuci\u00f3n do belo, e belezas hai moitas pero verdades poucas, consome m\u00e1is tempo do que deber\u00eda nalg\u00fans labores arquitect\u00f3nicas actuais, e a\u00ednda consegu\u00edndoa, aparentemente, d\u00e9ixaa baleira no seu interior, no seu ser, quedando pois sen verdade. Non podo evitar pensar que son ocasi\u00f3ns perdidas. Pero non sendo a arquitectura a \u00fanica actividade sufridora de tal mal, si \u00e9 a m\u00e1is permanente e visible e por iso deber\u00eda ser a m\u00e1is responsable da calidade que ofrece, ou deber\u00eda dicir calidade. En calquera caso a responsabilidade vai en cada un.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Xa non tendemos a asociar beleza e verdade e xa non hai canon de beleza patr\u00f3n co que contrastar as nosas creaci\u00f3ns, como ese metro de platino e iridio que te\u00f1en en Parides, a <em>Ville Lumi\u00e8re<\/em>, m\u00e1is luz&#8230; se cadra non fai falta e seguro que non fai falta, pero iso non significa que non se deba buscar algunha que outra verdade e atopar nela o que nos fai falta. Desde 2014 trabaja en solitario colaborando con estudios y arquitectos amigos. Es profesor de proyectos arquitect\u00f3nicos en la Escuela T\u00e9cnica superior de Arquitectura de A Coru\u00f1a desde 1997; es tutor de proyecto fin de carrera y ha sido presidente del tribunal de PFC.
