Rehabilitation in casona praised of s. The XVIIIth | Marcos Miguélez

The building is placed in the square of Ponferrada’s Town hall, in the base of the Arco del Reloj, in what it was one of 5 doors of access to the medieval city. The wall of masonry forms a part of the building in one of his gatherings, and crosses it from side to side as one of the walls of load of the building, being simultaneously a party wall shared with the convent of closing of the Concepcionistas, which has allowed his conservation.

The building noble Berciana answers to the traditional construction of casona of s. The XVIIIth of rectangular plant formed by attached volumes, with interior court, tower and stratifying his uses for heights. The high plant ysu was devoting himself to housing with a zone of handcrafted workshop ground floor orientated to agricultural or commercial activities.

His walls, stairs, balconies, eaves, solados and rejería are protected elements, which are the reflection of the different stages of the growth of the city. The medieval wall with his overlapping of phases and heights, the oven, the well, the shield and the tower are typical features of the traditional casona of s. The XVIIIth. The artesonados, the hydraulic tiles and stairs represent the interior of the industrial middle class of s. The XIXth, and the changes of s. The XXth in his fronts you show the new hollows for his commercial uses. During beginning of s. The XXIst realize works of stabilization and conservation.

The order, since object guides of the rehabilitation on the part of the promoter, it is required to us to adapt the former building to the functional keys of a new use as restaurant, keeping his identity complete and re-adapting the spaces.

We raise a clear strategy, her of solving the needs of comfort and facilities with the contemporary technology, bringing together it with in the historical local value. We intervene by means of processes of emptiness that extract the superfluous caps. On having cleared to the building of these skins there appear singular elements that we decide to put in value. We recover the walls of load of masonry, the hydraulic solados, the stuccoes of the decorative ceilings, the traditional partitions of studding of wood and stone, pieces of the furniture, part of the carpentries in doors, windows and his rejerías.

The new thing is constructed independently to the existing thing, but continuing the strategy of noble materials and traditional technologies, connecting natural stones, mortar of lime, and handcrafted work of plasters, wood, glasses and different metals.

Since spatial organization we propose to re-articulate the space I half-close to the emptinesses. In the first body of the building, a hollow is opened for double height like interior porch that connects the ground and first floor. In the second built-up body, we orientate the uses I half-close to the existing court that it wraps to the wall and creating light and space.

The result summarizes a project loaded with particularities, which has the object to return to the city the elements of his historical heritage.
