The sights from the high part are spectacular. The garden that produces water gives step to a sea covers of ancient houses that transforms in a landscape of gardens with the mounts in the horizon. To enjoy this experience, we place a viewing-point overflying the garden, with a pavement of wood that stops to guess what exists below, beside providing shade.
For the construction of “The mysterious history of the garden that produces water” (AKA “el Coso”), we have used:
– Concrete to contain the area, the ways, the reservoirs and the low structure of the fish-pond of companies.
– Prefabricated plates of concrete for the closing of the building.
– Steel for the top structure of the fish-pond of companies and the viewing-point.
– Vegetable species of local use, flowers, climbing, macrofitas in flotation that they project shade and offer a fresher environment.
Though we have defined a system with which we give response to the particular conditions of a place, the topographic problems and the lack of water, the project can be transferred to other spaces, even with different scale. It is a question of an example on how it is possible to re-use the water, involving the neighbors in the saving. It shows how it is possible to do a garden with limited resources, a microclimate and an ecosystem enriched inside the old town of a city.
The garden is a landscape of social integration, returns to the pedestrian his right to walk and to connect different sites of the city that before were remote. It facilitates the walk to the persons with mobility reduced thanks to his ramps of accessible earrings.
The work has possessed local workers to develop several of the works. Even some of them were former inhabitants of the buildings who collapsed in this neighborhood.
Definitively, “The mysterious history of the garden that produces water” is conceived as a wild space that he composes in a dialogue with his environment. The vegetation and the time they are vital elements in his configuration. The stations will change the aspect of the park along the stations and the years. The flora will take his time in developing, for what every year the park will be different. The end of the work marked a beginning in the life in the park, and a point of inflexion in the life of the city.
The project joins his environment respecting the topography, the adjacent buildings and revitalizing the place. It does not modify the profile of the city in the immediate sight. From the landscape of garden it remains totally hidden. For the user, it constitutes a surprise to discover the whole oasis in the middle of the labyrinthine urban desert.
The result is a garden that produces water where the flora attracts to the fauna. Beside persons lived it, we have confirmed the presence of cats, frogs, vencejos, doves and several types of insects. They have taken the park as a part of his daily life, contribute his movement to which there adds the sound of the leaves, the water, the neighbors in his daily activities and his I continue travelling to come to another side.
