If a few days ago “we were crossing” the street, as whom he says, for chat with the members of Coast audio-visual Communication, today we go away up to the south of Galicia, concretely to the city of Pontevedra to know to taller abierto gestión cultural.
Taller abierto is a project created and stimulated by three young women arquitectas, Ana Barreiro, Marta Guirado and África Martínez, which exist I decide “to give him an opportunity to construct” architecture. In spite of the fact that some of them already had the prepared suitcases, ultimately they have be of sung for “remaining”, like that they begin his presentation in the web.
Since any project arises from the fortuitous meeting, and of having a few common worries and a shared vision of what might be done in a city as Pontevedra.
“We want to teach to see with new eyes that one on what we do not repair by force of seeing it with indifferent eyes. Them more opened we will be able to enjoy more than we have, in a few moments in which the desire of innovations is becoming impossible to satisfy.”
They are necessary to understand and to develop the architecture from differently approaches find in the cultural management a point of meeting to generate and to develop his projects. Thanks to the visions and the personal interests that manage to bring his passion over to different public for the art, the architecture, the education and the social sciences, fields that take form of the different events and workshops that have in march.
We leave you with the interview that we were lucky to realize in his own study in the Estrella Square.
Which has been your formation and professional path before taller abierto?
Though the three we are arquitectas of formation, we have been employed at very diverse areas not necessarily tied to the construction. The architecture has been indisputably a base on which to place our beginning, understood as the space of the life, very linked to the social sciences.
What did lead you to opening way you in the education? Why principally with children?
So the beginning of thinking globally and acting locally. We turned him for almost one year to the idea of connecting art, culture and heritage. And we realized that what was needed was a pedagogy. And from the beginning. Pedagogy to know and to value the environment.
Do you meet with many difficulties? Which were the most problematic?
The cultural management is a field that is re-updated constant, so it does not suit to stop, and this to be sometimes incompatible with the reflection. Every time there is less space for the arts and minor social recognition towards the architecture especially, and this way the humanities are more and more cornered. While the new educational plans elitizan the education of the arts, the parents are more worried because his children dedicate time to other disciplines.
Are you satisfied with the reached aims?
Though there is a roadmap, we are more of processes that of goals. We are enjoying the way, turning it aside, doing pauses, but without leaving it. We would emphasize our work with the children as a source of satisfactions that sometimes exceeds our expectations. Interesting questions appear, there are very productive classes and you win of learning. As for the adult public, we work with teachers and talleristas excellent, for what there is an increasing interest for the activities that are given.
Do you think that to study Architecture has been a fundamental passport to have come to your current work?
Undoubtedly. The process proyectual, with his determining ones and his multidimensionalidad, it are the base of the development and the materialization of any idea.
What expectations and projects of future have you for taller abierto?
We have a project of collaborative learning on which we come working from last year, with intergenerational workshops for families that we are on the verge of resuming. Also projects of comisariado of exhibitions, interventions in the city, organization of acts and cultural visits.
Do you arrange or complement this activity with other labors or in other fields?
Yes. We study Pedagogy and support contact with other areas. We manage a forum of Photography with near 60 participants, with that in April we organize a sample in the Gallery Sargadelos of Pontevedra.
Are this type of initiatives profitable? Do you feel good remunerated by the labor that you realize?
Great part of the population does not pay for culture and the budgets of the institutions are very limited, so it is not very profitable if the idea is to do business. There exists the false illusion of which the things are free and is not like that, there is the great human capital, a lot of time and effort that it must be remunerated.
Would you encourage other architects to follow your steps? What steps do you consider that they should give? How to complete his studies? What other advices would you give them?
Yes, we encourage them to open new ways, of spreading the knowledge of the built-up world that surrounds us. The first step is to know the playground to detect needs, to go out of the old schemes and to rewrite the script, understanding the profession as something more opened. To be employed at equipment and to do network, doing of the group something more human and solidary.
Do you think that the architects in Spain we should continue opening new routes of work to go out of the “most “traditional” cabin of projecting given the current situation of the construction in our country?
We live in a company in permanent change, and provided that the architects we have a wide formation must be adaptative professionals. Other groups have colonized fields that traditionally the architects were occupying, since it is the case of the design of interiors, and we must take good note. The architect always has designed to all the scales, opportunity that we should transform into strength. The field of the teaching also needs the architects, and there is the whole series of activities that tend to be done you will interdiscipline in that to collaborate with other experts.
What do you think of those that they have been going to work abroad?
Given the situation, it is necessary to have value so much if you remain as if you go away, but the one that goes away traverses the risk of not returning, and it is a misfortune if it is done exclusively by need.
How do you see the future of the profession?
It is so much for doing, from the rehabilitation to the territorial arrangement, that an active future of the profession is indispensable. But commitment is needed on the part of all the agents, especially of the Administration. The new routes of work extend the professional arch, the paper of the architect is increasingly necessary in new sectors.
